From July 17 to 20, 2026, the Canadian Muslim Youth Summit (CMYS), in partnership with Sabeel Youth & Community Center and Islamic Relief Canada, proudly hosted the inaugural First Canadian Muslim Youth Retreat Summit—a unique gathering that brought together Muslim youth from across Canada for four memorable days of faith, learning, adventure, and brotherhood in beautiful Nova Scotia.
Nearly 150 young Muslims traveled from cities across the country, including Corner Brook, Quebec City, London (Ontario), Ottawa, Edmonton, and many communities throughout Atlantic Canada. Although they came from different backgrounds and provinces, they shared one purpose: to strengthen their faith, build lasting friendships, and grow together as a community.

The journey began in Halifax, where participants gathered at Sabeel Youth & Community Center before visiting the land designated for Sabeel’s future project. There, the group took a commemorative photo, marking the beginning of what will hopefully become a lasting annual tradition.

The group then traveled together to Berwick, where the retreat officially commenced. The opening reminder by Shaykh Abdulrahman Dahi emphasized sincerity of intention, the value of Islamic brotherhood, and the importance of making the most of every moment spent together. His words set the tone for the days ahead and reminded everyone that the retreat was about much more than recreation—it was an opportunity for spiritual growth and meaningful connections.

After settling into the cabins, participants performed Maghrib and Isha prayers together, shared their first community dinner, and concluded the evening around the campfire. Those first conversations quickly turned strangers into friends and laid the foundation for a weekend built upon companionship and mutual respect.
The second day was dedicated to outdoor adventure at the lake. Participants enjoyed kayaking, team activities, recreational games, and time surrounded by Nova Scotia’s natural beauty. Throughout the day, scholars and speakers delivered beneficial reminders and educational sessions, creating a balance between recreation and spiritual development that became one of the defining features of the retreat.
Back at camp on the third day, participants continued enjoying local activities, interactive programs, and opportunities to strengthen friendships. The evening concluded with everyone gathering to watch the FIFA World Cup Final together, sharing the excitement as Spain lifted the championship trophy.
On the final day, the retreat came to a close, but the experience continued. While some participants returned directly to Halifax in preparation for their flights home, others traveled to Digby for an unforgettable whale-watching excursion. Witnessing Nova Scotia’s marine wildlife firsthand added another memorable chapter to an already remarkable journey.
Later that day, the participants gathered once more in Halifax as guests of Masjid Ummah, where they spent their final evening together before departing the following day from Halifax Stanfield International Airport. They returned to their hometowns carrying far more than luggage—they carried new friendships, valuable lessons, cherished memories, and a deeper appreciation for the Muslim community across Canada.
The First Canadian Muslim Youth Retreat Summit was more than a retreat. It was a powerful reminder that when young Muslims come together with sincere intentions, they create bonds that transcend geography and strengthen the future of our communities.
As the first edition comes to an end, we ask Allah to accept the efforts of everyone who contributed to its success, bless all the participants, and allow this gathering to continue growing for many years to come, inspiring generations of Muslim youth across Canada.
